Affordable housing in Chapel Hill, NC, remains a significant challenge for many families. Rising living costs make it increasingly difficult for residents to find stable homes, which are essential for personal growth, safety, and community stability. The need for affordable family housing is more urgent than ever before.
Here at CASA, a nonprofit organization based in North Carolina, we have dedicated our efforts to tackling this challenge. Our mission is to create and manage affordable housing in Chapel Hill to provide safe, permanent homes for individuals and families struggling with housing insecurity. By developing affordable family housing, our team at CASA ensures that hardworking individuals, veterans, and underserved families have a place to call home.
The impact of our work at CASA can be seen in the lives of those we serve. Families that once faced unstable living situations now enjoy the security of a home. Children from these households are thriving academically and socially without the stress of constant relocation, while parents can focus on providing for their families without the burden of rent exceeding their income.
Our approach transforms lives by fostering stability and opportunity. By addressing local affordable housing needs, we build stronger communities where neighbors can work, learn, and live together with dignity. For example, one Chapel Hill resident shared how a CASA-managed home allowed her to pursue career training — something she couldn’t afford while struggling with escalating private market rents.
To continue this vital work, we’re preparing to launch Homestead Gardens, our latest project in Orange County. It is a public-private partnership to build a rental community focusing on low- and middle-income households. Units will be a mix of one-bedroom workforce units and 2- and 3-bedroom units to serve mothers and children recovering from substance use. We can’t wait to share more about this project and our collaboration with the Town of Chapel Hill, UNC Horizons, Self-Help, Community Home Trust, and Habitat for Humanity of Orange County.
Affordable housing in Chapel Hill is about more than just roofs and walls—it’s about creating opportunities for brighter futures. At CASA, we bridge the gap for families and individuals in need, providing not only homes but also hope. With your support, we can continue this life-changing work.
