With more than 50 apartments in Chapel Hill and Carrboro already, CASA has established a presence in Orange County. A proposed development could expand CASA’s footprint in Orange County by at least 28 apartments in 2018-2019. The development site includes a parcel in Chapel Hill and another in Carrboro, allowing CASA to increase units available in both of those communities at the same time.

Chapel Hill’s Town Council, Carrboro Board of Aldermen, Orange County Board of Commissioners, and Stroud Roses Inc. have endorsed and committed support for the planned development, which will offer rental housing to households earning less than 50% of the area median income. CASA is seeking additional support from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency and Federal Home Loan Bank as well as bank financing and community donations to bring the development to fruition.

CASA expects construction will begin in 2018.

“Affordable housing options are desperately needed in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, and we’re excited about the possibilities at this site,” says Mary Jean Seyda, CASA’s Chief Operations Officer and a longtime Chapel Hill resident.
