CASA team poses for a picture at Durham breakfast event raising money to eliminate homelessness

On Wednesday, April 18, CASA supporters came together for a breakfast fundraiser in Durham. The morning event was a chance to enjoy food, company, and conversation with other donors and members of CASA’s team.

Thanks to the help of individuals around the Triangle, we were able to raise over $40,000 to help in our mission to end homelessness.

CASA Raises Money to Fight Homelessness at Durham Breakfast Event

The money raised at this event will go toward CASA’s efforts to put an end to homelessness in Durham, North Carolina, and beyond. The funds help us provide individualized property management for our nearly 500 current homes while keeping housing costs low for our tenants.

Your gifts also help us acquire more apartments, expanding our reach in Durham. We currently have two projects in the pre-development phase in Durham and Orange Counties, and we’re looking forward to announcing them soon. This growth will help CASA provide housing for more individuals, like our tenant, Paul.

Paul spoke at the Durham Breakfast, sharing the story of how he got into his CASA home. A veteran living with a disability, Paul has found a community and a chance to focus on his health through CASA. Paul’s story shows the power housing has to change lives.

Unfortunately, the Durham Breakfast came at a difficult time for staff and supporters for CASA. Debra King, CASA’s CEO of 23 years, passed away on April 14 after a long battle with cancer. Debra was an invaluable part of the movement for affordable housing, and we’re still grieving her loss.

Though Debra’s passing brings us sadness, we appreciated the condolences, hugs, and warm wishes at the breakfast. It helped remind us that we are continuing her work and carrying on her legacy. We know she would have been happy to see the support CASA received.

Help CASA End Homelessness in Durham and Beyond

CASA would like to extend our thanks to everyone who attended the Durham Breakfast and donated. Your support makes everything we do possible.

It’s going to take cooperation from the whole community to put an end to homelessness, but CASA believes it can be done. Donate to CASA today to become a part of the solution to homelessness.
