a set of keys with a home on it symbolizing income based housing

Updated July 17, 2019

Income-based housing, also known as  workforce housing, is a program in which property owners provide housing for low-income residents at a reduced rent. The property owners then receive a financial benefit from the government to make up the difference for their involvement in the program, called a voucher.

This initiative to help fight homeless is important to those involved and the community as a whole. Learn why, and how CASA helps, below.

The Benefits of Workforce Housing

Here are just a few of the ways tenants benefit from workforce housing:

  1. Having a safe and protected shelter, particularly during the winter months.
  2. The ability to work a long-term job and build financial stability.
  3. Being able to send children to school, join a place of worship, and get involved in the local community.
  4. Having access to better cooking, bathing and sleeping accommodations to improve the overall quality of life.
  5. Gaining back the confidence, self-esteem, and dignity that accompanies having a place to call your own.

How CASA Helps in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, NC

Everyone deserves the right to have a place to call home, and CASA is proud to be an active part of this cause in the Triangle in North Carolina. Not all of CASA’s tenants have vouchers, but those who do are able to use their vouchers with us.

The lack of affordable housing is a growing problem in the U.S., but at CASA we’re doing our part to change that. Our tenants pay about 30% of their income each month toward rent, and we accept government-funded housing vouchers or subsidies.
