CASA was awarded a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit allocation from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA) for our Merritt Mill development in Orange County, adding 48 high-quality, affordable apartments to serve families and individuals earning less than 60% of the area median income.
This will be our first new construction in Orange County. The development will consist of 48 1- and 2-bedroom affordable apartment units. Half of the apartments will be located in Chapel Hill, and the other half in Carrboro, as the site straddles the town line. We’re planning to incorporate a covered picnic area with tables and a grill, an ADA accessible playground, a multipurpose room, and a resident computer center with two computers.
For years we’ve been calling this property Merritt Mill as a placeholder– help us choose a permanent name for this community!
The groundbreaking of Merritt Mill is currently scheduled for April 2021!
Stay tuned as we virtually celebrate, announce a permanent name, and begin construction on our newest Orange County Community.
