Debbie White has announced her plans to retire after nearly 15 years as CASA’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO). As CASA searches for a replacement, we’re carefully planning to be sure our new CFO is well equipped to take on Debbie’s responsibilities. CASA Financial Officer Announces Retirement
White has served as CFO for nearly 15 years
RALEIGH, N.C. — Debbie White, CASA’s Chief Financial Officer, has announced her retirement. White plans to retire early in 2020.
In 2005, when White joined CASA, the nonprofit housing developer managed 135 apartments. Over the past fourteen years, CASA has more than tripled the number of stable, affordable apartments it owns and manages in Wake, Durham and Orange Counties.
According to Mary Jean Seyda, CASA’s CEO, “Debbie White has done a remarkable job building CASA into a highly respected, financially stable organization serving a need in our community that is woefully underfunded. Through fluctuations in the housing market and the ups and downs of funding and financing, Debbie has left no stone unturned in finding ways to uphold our values and commitment to affordable housing. There truly was no blueprint for leading our financial strategy over the past fourteen years. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to serve CASA alongside Debbie and wish her all the best in her retirement. She has helped positioned us well for a bright future.”
A Boston native, White began her career as a teacher. After 12 years in public accounting, she joined CASA. “I came to CASA at a point in my life where doing day to day work that made an impact in my own community really mattered,” she said. “I will always be grateful to Debra King and to Mary Jean, for their confidence in me, and their steadfast guidance over the years. CASA is a product of their vision and dedication, and I believe we have a superlative team to carry CASA’s work forward.”
White lives in Durham with her husband, Malcolm, and near her two adult children and their families, including three grandchildren.
CASA is currently searching for White’s replacement. According to the organization’s succession plan, White plans to overlap with the new financial officer for several weeks to ensure a smooth transition.
