CASA has been awarded a $45,000 grant from the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Charitable Service Trust. The grant will be used to further the efforts of CASA’s Supportive Housing Program, providing direct assistance to ill and injured veterans in the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill communities.
This year’s award is the third CASA has received from the trust. In no small part due to this generous program, CASA is able to continue building and managing permanent, affordable housing for veterans living with disabilities who have experienced homelessness.
The grant from the DAV will continue to assist in covering costs of the Supportive Housing Program for veterans, providing not only affordable homes for those who need them, but comprehensive property management services for veteran tenants. These services include 24-hour on-call maintenance staff, monthly indoor safety inspections, coordination of volunteer events to celebrate Veterans Day, tenant education, and more.
CASA began building and maintaining housing exclusively reserved for veterans in 2012 — today about 20 percent of CASA households are veteran households. CASA maintains two veteran-specific housing developments in Raleigh and Durham.
